Garden Lab Whispers Grow was one of 6 teams selected for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.watershed.co.uk\/studio\/projects\/grounding-technologies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grounding Technologies<\/a>, a pilot project from <a href=\"https:\/\/bristolbathcreative.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bristol + Bath Creative R+D<\/a> for exploring how creative technology can be used to support climate action.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4168\" src=\"https:\/\/www.zprod.org\/zwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/disabledCreativesWorkshop.jpg\" alt=\"Garden Lab workshop 1\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.zprod.org\/zwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/disabledCreativesWorkshop.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.zprod.org\/zwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/disabledCreativesWorkshop-288x300.jpg 288w, https:\/\/www.zprod.org\/zwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/disabledCreativesWorkshop-981x1024.jpg 981w, https:\/\/www.zprod.org\/zwp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/disabledCreativesWorkshop-768x801.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><br \/>\u00a0<br \/>\u201cNature relatedness has been found to be associated\u00a0with reduced self-interest, more concern for the welfare of the environment, better physical and mental health, a meaningful life,\u00a0and increased pro-environmental behaviour.\u201d<br \/>Schultz 2001<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OVUBfr3QIyU?si=bow-4GanK_1Vgfl_\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>Based in a local community allotment the group worked for 3 months on two families of experiments exploring how nature connectedness relates to climate action and creative technologies. The team co-designed a macrostick, a device enabling a wheelchair user to observe and take extreme close-up photographs at ground level. Another microscope was mounted on a remote-controlled snail-inspired vehicle. The earth batteries use metal electrodes in the soil to produce a small electrical current that can be made tangible with light and sound.
