Afrikaandermarkt Big Band Action 2009

Afrikaandermarkt Big Band Action

The piece is part of the COM.POST project by DePlayer, a series of commissions exploring site specific sound art in public spaces.

After visiting the area, I decided to take over a stall on the local market. The stall turned into a production platform for a temporary big band whose instruments and costumes were made from market-sourced material.

Any market goer could take part, being allocated 5 euros to go shopping for materials. On return to the stall with the goods, they were helped to make the instrument/costume. The day ended with a parade where costumes and instruments were put to use along the market aisles.
