Geranium Survival Unit
An attempt at making a life-support system for a plant using off-grid power and mostly upcycled materials. In this case, the geranium had to survive in a space without daylight, rain or dedicated human care for several weeks.
The plant is placed on a platform covered by a daylight-approximation led lighting system. A sensor in the pot detects the dampness of the soil. Below a set threshold, a pump is activated that waters the plant. The whole system is powered by a battery which is kept charged by humans (gallery visitors in this case) pedalling on a hand-made bike generator.
The plant survived a 6 weeks period, the duration of the exhibition Is Technology Eating my Brain?
