techeatbrain Litany
Visitors to the exhibition Is Technology Eating my Brain? were invited to write the end of sentences starting with “Technology is” on sheets posted on a gallery wall. The thoughts were then entered in a text file, as well as their negative version. For example “Technology is poo” was also entered as “Technology is not poo”.

The text file was saved on a 10 year-ish old PC tower that had been donated as scrap before being fitted with 1gb of (scrap) ram and a fresh install of Crunchbang Linux. The old school open source espeak speech synthesizer and a short shell program completed the set-up. The computer robotically read the sentences aloud in random order while displaying the text on the screen in a green font on black bakground retro fashion. More than 300 sentences were collected.
